LOOTED ART
Much of the art in museums is looted art. What is looted art? The word actually says it all: art that was once looted. Many works of art were taken away from their original owners during the colonial period, only to be displayed in Western museums. That is where they still are today. So the artworks were literally looted from those countries. Isn't the simplest solution to return the works to the original owners? That is complicated. Some think so and others claim that the original countries are not safe or rich enough to properly preserve the artworks. But who decides what the best solution is in the first place?
